v. 1 tr. & intr. (usu. foll. by from) disconnect or become disconnected; separate (dissociated her from their guilt). 2 tr. Chem. decompose, esp. reversibly. 3 tr. Psychol. cause (a person's mind) to develop more than one centre of consciousness. Phrases and idioms dissociated personality Psychol. the pathological coexistence of two or more distinct personalities in the same person. dissociate oneself from 1 declare oneself unconnected with. 2 decline to support or agree with (a proposal etc.).
